Izaiah entered the First Steps Program at 18 months with no spoken language and tremendous frustration when he could not express himself. Izaiah had experienced some medical trauma at a young age and struggled to bond with anyone other than those closest to him.
Izaiah, his family and a team of DCO therapists worked diligently for several months to improve his communication and trust. By the time Izaiah got closer to the age of three, he was an entirely different child. He began to speak more than sign, as his verbalizations made up for the majority of his communications. Izaiah had made tremendous progress in the program, and by his third birthday, was ready to graduate First Steps. It was a true joy to see all the gains he had made; what a difference 18 months can make!
